Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to perform technical/manual work functions involving Flow Monitoring of Sanitary Sewers, and Rain Gauges.
Duties and responsibilities include inspecting, calibrating, and operating equipment; inspecting sewer lines; Installing flow monitoring equipment in sewer manholes; repairing broken monitors and probes; providing direction to staff members; Providing over-site of the ongoing sewer rehab project; and maintaining documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Inspects equipment to ensure proper working order; performs appropriate calibrations.
- Tests atmospheric conditions to detect gases and measure oxygen in manholes or other work areas; ensures adherence to safety regulations; educates co-workers on correct procedures.
- Install and maintain sewer flow monitoring equipment in sewer manholes.
- Performs repairs and service as needed to broken and malfunctioning flow monitoring equipment.
- Proper use and disposal of chemicals (Chlorine Bleach) involved in sewer monitoring procedures.
- Provides direction and assistance to co-workers as appropriate; coordinates work activities with other staff members.
- Prepares and/or receives various forms, logs, work orders, reports and other documents.
- Responds to routine requests for information from officials, employees, members of the staff, the public or other individuals.
- Uses knowledge of various software programs to operate a computer in an effective and efficient manner.
- Oversee the operations of contractors engaged in testing and inspection of sanitary sewer lines for the City of Baton Rouge.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
High school diploma (or GED) required (vocational/technical school graduate preferred), with two years of sewer rehab experience (or related), and with supervisory experience desirable; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
